MINORITIES RESISTANT TO THE GOSPEL

The Palaung, Danu, Taungyo, Intha, PaO and Wa are the most unreached and resistant minority groups in northeast Myanmar, mainly living in remote mountainous regions of Shan State as well as in bordering regions of Thailand, Laos and China. These minorities range from several hundred thousand to over a million in population. They are mainly farming communities, but deforestation, soil depletion and erosion are taking away their livelihood.

These minorities have an elaborate religious mixture of Buddhism, animist spirit worship and occult (demonic) rituals which bind them firmly to demonic principalities and powers. These perceived forces dominate all areas of their lives, from birth to death. Nobody dares to resist them, even if it implies breaking Buddhist principles. New believers face huge pressures to either revert back to demon worship or to leave their communities. There are some efforts by dedicated believers from the larger Myanmar churches and from other countries to reach these people.
