CHANGING THE FACE OF COMMUNITY
Praise the Lord for the beauty, richness and fertility
of Myanmar and for the creativity and initiative of
its people. These natural and human resources are
great assets but have yet to be put to good use.
Thank the Lord for the dedication and initiative of
many local Christians laboring for the welfare of
their neighbors. Give thanks for the opportunities for
churches to serve the community and share the love
of Christ. Pray for both local and international
organizations trying to achieve community
development all over Myanmar, especially those
working with vulnerable groups: the poor, women,
children, etc. Past mismanagement of many
resources has left poor people with few
opportunities. Pray for a more supportive and understanding
international community, which currently is very critical about trade
with and aid to the people of Myanmar. Trade sanctions result in
export markets falling away and a decline in prices. The people
suffering under this are the vulnerable, not those in power.
Prayer Points
- Pray that education, health care and the economy will be restored
by a concerted effort of both governmental and nongovernmental
organizations.
- Pray that local Christian agencies will be able to tap into the
worldwide experience in community development.
- Pray for a growing civil society that will enable the people to
influence their development.
- Pray for the challenges that international Christian agencies face
in working with churches and local organizations.
- Pray that cooperation with church organizations will be fruitful
and mutually supportive.
